The first step

"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."
~Confucius

So every road has a beginning and every journey starts with a single step down the path you've chosen. The same goes for my quest to becoming a good wife. My first step was my choice to learn how to keep the home clean. So far I have kept the kitchen clean every night last week into this week (we aren't counting the weekend though since that had some crazy wedding stuff for a friend).
While thinking about my first steps on my path I thought about (yes I am a nerd) starting on an epic quest in a fantasy world. Our favorite hero's just wouldn't be themselves with out their armor and capes and swords. Just as I don't feel like a wife when I am not wearing my favorite apron, right now I have two and one of them has become my favorite although it doesn't fit quite the way I'd like it to. Once I have a sewing machine I will be making a new apron that is just right :)
Of course every good hero knows their weapons and equipment well; same with me. Armed with tongs and spatulas I fight my way through the culinary wastelands. Some encounters are met well and I whip up something amazing. Some end...not so well. Like the klosse I tried to make a few days ago, messed up the last step by covering the pot...they boiled apart and I had potato water with tiny chunks of what was four beautiful klosse floating in the murky water. I cried on the bed and gave up on dinner when my hubby suggested we used what was left of my rice from lunch to have with the pork I'd prepared to go along the klosse and gravy.
Teamwork is what this marriage is built on, and endless amounts of patience on my husbands end.
So together we take our first steps, and many many more steps as the years progress.

I now pronounce you Husband and...Is the kitchen dirty again?!

The metaphorical wedding bells rang for me on July 8th of 2011 (metaphorical since we didnt get married at a church building ;) ). That was almost a month ago. Since then I haven't done these things:
-kept the apartment and kitchen clean everyday
-cooked dinner every night and had lunches ready for my husband for work
-created a menu plan for each week
-gotten a new job
-been a good wife in general (still in the selfish premarriage state of mind)

what I have done is this:
-read way to much manga
-watched to many shows on hulu
-learned how to rely on a crockpot ;) perfect for keeping food warm until hubby gets home between 12am-6am

I need to work a lot to become the wife I want to be, the homemaker I've seen my mom be for years and never really paid attention too. I mean obviously its just something you automatically know how to do once you get married. Oh how wrong could I be! It takes a lot of hard work to get off your butt to clean and cook and keep the home in a nice order. I dont even have the excuse of kids yet, just the two of us (mostly me) making a mess.

This blog is my journey on the road of marriage, trying to become the kind of wife I have seen and admired in my mom. Admiration being the recent development of her wifely talents, never knew it was so much work ;)
